    Hello everyone! well after starting my new hobby, I have to say its been very enjoyable but also very discouraging at times. I started with a 10g freshwater tank and learned alot there with trial and error. I"ve also found out the hard way that not all aquarium store owners/employees know what they're talking about, you find things out the hard way, unfortunately...trial and error. So here i am hoping to learn how to maintain my 55g saltwater tank and its not going very well :( please help!!!!!!

    Welcome and Trust me, you are in the right place. most of the time you will get honest reliable advice here. Also you wont have to wait days to get it either. Have fun with that tank. I know how frustrating it can be, but in the end, the ride is well worth it. by all means start throwing out the questions.

    Welcome Ma Belle Amee! I just had to write that.....Well, first rule here is; You MUST post pics!! Second, what do you need help with? Let us know all the pertinent info. I made this condensed assesment for all who need help;
    I will suggest that when you post and are asking for help or for ideas, please include all basic information. Basic information should include; all water parameters(Calcium,Magnesium,Alkalinity,Ph and Nitrate and Phosphate levels) along with Temp. of your tank and Sg (specific gravity).Size of tank and complete set up meaning, filter type (sump, canister etc.), if you use a skimmer,lighting (what type and total output)plus what type of lighting are you using and what is your lighting schedule (how long a period are your actinic and daylights on) and if you have fish only with live rock and if you keep
    corals. Also how long the tank has been up. I know some of this is in
    your bio but many bios don't contain this info. How many times has someone posted and then there is this list of postings addressing the above. If you give the most info you can to give us a good profile, it will cut down on response time and mis-diagnosis or answers that don't fit and we will all benefit.

    The more and precise info the better. Again welcome!

    ^^^ very important.

    the first few months (often longer) keeping a SW tank can be very discouraging as you can have multiple issues attacking from many fronts and there is so much literature out there and many times there will be conflicting arguments making it hard to get a clear answer. but your definitely in the right place... i cant tell you how much i've learned on this site.
    So whats up?
    And welcome!

    ok, I started my tank about a year ago, I let it cycle for a good 2months before I added anything, then I added 3 damsels, tank remained cloudy,specific gravity 1.021-1.022, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrate, ammonia 0.25 @ times, ph 8.2 - 8.4, then came the brown alge.so i bought snails and hermit crabs, 2 gobies. Weeks later parameters around the same tank still cloudy and the brown alge was gone , 2 months ago I bought 2 more damsels and 2 anemones, then came =( the green alge. ok my fault i was leaving the tank light on toooooooooo long... right. so i set up a hosp tank and still lost most of my fish, did my water changes to the 55g ,alge gone but my tank is still cloudy and the few fish left have white spots [ ICK ]

    Pics? The cloudiness is problematic. Are the anemones still in there? Any deaths lately?
