I have a sealife system wet dry. i about to setup a 90 gallon reef tank, and reading up I notice that the bio balls are not a good idea. Is there a way anyone can give me an idea what i can do to convert it to a fuge or something useable. Thanks a lot

I disagree about the bio balls, I had my wet/dry with bio balls(bb) going on 9yrs now and they work fine.

To be very honest, I did clean them once but only b/c I was trying to narrow down the root of my no3 problem. I finally narrowed it down to my sponges and filter pads. I went from 20ppm to 5-10ppm just by cleaning them on a weekly basis. And my no3 "problem" is not considered to be a problem in the first place. I was cleaning them only once a month. I know ppl who have bb's for over 15 yrs WITHOUT ever cleaning them. I dont know why bb's have such a bad wrap.

The old LFS I went to in Kissimmee used them on all the tanks and their stuff was always good. I thought about setting it up when I first did mine, but the filter was cheaper.(at that time)

My preference is to use live rock as a replacement for the bioballs!
