Hello everyone! I've been learning a lot on this site the past month- thanks! I just wanted some simple info about skimmers. My friend whom I had talked to when starting this endeavor said that I didn't need one for a tank my size (see sig.)- however, he has a FO tank and I an going to be going for a reef... so I take what he says, but try to find more info.

I just want to know if I should(need to) get one to be successful- and just some other basics (what they do, why I would need one/wouldn't need one, etc..)
I've been reading, but would like the opinions of people in real life situations. Thanks!

Yes u need a skimmer. Look on ebay for some great deals, thats where i get all of my dry goods. Skimming is a very important part with a reef system in my opinion. If going with reef consider getting at least 2 lbs. per. gallon of water ( 52lbs. of live rock).

Do you have a sump on this setup or do you need a hang on the back skimmer?
