I don't have a sump, so I was looking at the hanging style.

Well I have experience with the Turboflotor Multi and the Remora hang on skimmers...

    Turboflotor Multi:
    +Skims really well
    +big collection cup
    +can handle big bioload
-pump is moody and can get loud occasionally
-adjustment dials don't have a deep low range so you can't turn the water level really low without a ballvalve on the pump if you need too.
-huge skimmer, need a lot of room in and behind the tank. pump is big too.

    Remora:
+Very easy to use, close to set and forget.
    +Very streamline, small footprint.
    +Easy to clean.
-Not a very efficient skimmer without mods like upgrading pump.
-Not a lot of bubbles produced. I kind of think of it as blowing bubbles through a straw. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I have very little room... nor a big budget.

Huh. In that case, I'd be tempted to get that one on ebay then, or you can buy my old Remora for $40. But you really shouldn't skimp on a skimmer, it's arguably the most important filter on a reef tank.

If it is a new tank that is not set up I would hold out and use a sump For safety reasons.
    The turbofloter works bolth ways

Ok... good info. Now... what do you think is more important- getting one soon, or getting a good one? :)

Well, I ended up getting a Coralife SUper skimmer 65... took me a few hours to figure the damn thing out. When I finially got it together, my output tubing was too long, so as soon as I plugged in, it would fill up and overflow out the top in a matter of second (Thats was fun! especially with all the electrical outlets there!) :) But It got it all figured out... Looks like it takes up a quarter of my tank since it's so small... guess I'll have to get a bigger one now ;)
Hopefully it'll be worth it. Thanks for the help everyone.

Gotta love the learning curve. ;) What kind of pump does that skimmer run on? Is it the same Ocean Runner as the Turboflotor?
