Name is Kevin, but you all may call me Kevo. I've had plenty of freshwater tanks in the past ranging is size from 5g to 25g. I recently got the urge to try a saltwater tank (reef specifically) and purchased a 55g with stand off craigslist for $100. Current the tank is still 'under construction' as we put a fresh layer of paint to match our current furniture and then painted the back glass black. We purchased a filter, heater, instant ocean, and live sand yesterday from our local petstore and rushed home to get started. We filled the tank 3/4 of the way and started out by getting the salt level correct! Once that was finished we installed the pump and heater! This is as the tank sits now, just waiting for the water to heat up and then we will drop the sand in! How am I doing so far? If all goes to plan we hope to buy some live rock this weekend and begin aquascaping!

Look forward to learning tons and will try my best to use the SEARCH function before asking...

Welcome! Just remember that patience is a must with a reef tank, but so worth it!

To be honest with you I'm known to be low on the patience. Kind of another thing I like about this hobby, maybe I will be able to learn two things. 1. All about SW Reef Aquariums and 2. How to be patient. Going to pick up LR today after work and begin laying out the aquascape. I'm going to hold off adding anything to the tank other than a piece of shrimp, which from I heard would help out the cycling process!

Forgot to mention I added the sand last night around 9pm. This morning the water was still hazying hoping by the time I get home after work the sand will have settled!
