Newbie with AquaC ???

Thanks to multiple people on this site recommending it I want to purchase a AquaC Remora for my new tank. This is all new to me so hopefully this is not a stupid question. I am going to be using a 10 gallon sump underneath my tank to house the skimmer and heater. I have seen this skimmer advertised as a hang on variety, will it work/fit with my set-up?
Anything else I need to know that I may be overlooking?

there's an in sump version of the Remora i belive its called Urchin

The urchin looks like the way to go. I just looked at them on-line and have a question or two about them. Once again I hope this isn't stupid question, I just don't want to buy something that will end up not working and be hard to return.

On the website it says that the footprint of the urchin is
6"x3" but then it says and additional 6 inches for collection cup removal is needed. Minimum height needed for easy maintanance is 24". I'm planning on putting this in a 10 gallon sump so I know that is not 24" high. Is this simply the height in the cabinet for being able to easily maintain the equipment? It sounds like this type of skimmer just lays down in there correct?
Also, they have two available, one has a drain fitting included. Do I need/want this?

Currently, I feel like I have reached the toddler stage and am almost out of diapers (with my knowledge of saltwater aquariums). I still need my hand held and need some reassurance but I am slowly progressing to kindergarten! LOL!

1. Yes, the 6x3 value is the floor space needed in the sump for the skimmer.
2. The 24" is the vertical clearance needed for the height of the skimmer plus the additional space needed to lift the collection cup up for cleaning.
3. The model with the drain allows you to collect the skimmate in another container lessening the frequency of dumping. (IMHO a stinky way to go, literally since the skimmate usually has quite an odor. I prefer to empty the cup every day or two as needed.

Glenn, If you are still considering the AquaC Remora, that is what I used on the tank in the first place. It was hanging on the back of the sump. Check the pictures I have posted and the pictures I gave you.

So as I understand it the Remora can actually hang on the outside of the sump and the Urchin will be inside the sump. I can use either apparently. Are there pros and cons to the two options? Is one easier/better than the other?

You are correct. There is no difference in performance between the 2 skimmers. The Remora will sit higher than the urchin so you have to figure out how much clearance you have under your tank. I have a Remora pro modified to sit in my sump rather than HOT because of the clearance issue.

 

Also it will need more room on the side that it is hanging off of. So if your limited on clearence ie: wall behind your tank and stand door on the other side,then in sump may be best.
