I have a 75 gallon tank and am new to the hobby. The water has been up and running for a few months. I took my water to the local fish store where they tested it and said everything looked good.....they sold me 4 chromis. It has been a week and they appear healthy and happy. How long should I wait before I add anything else? And then what else would be OK? I have live rock but no coral as of yet.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to 3reef.

Did the lfs tell you what your parameters were?

What are the dimensions of your tank?

How much LR do you have in your tank?

What type of filtration are you running?

Are you planning to add corals?

Just trying to get a feel for what you are running to see what type of fish might be right.

The LFS said my nitrates were a little elevated, but still OK. I have two Fluval filters (not sure on the model # right now) and a protein skimmer I just bought this last weekend. I have 11 pounds of live rock....not much yet, but I wanted to start slowly. I do not have any corals yet, and want to keep adding fish and live rock for a while before delving into that. I also do not have any snails, shrimp.....ect, as the fish store said I don't have anything for them to eat yet.

Welcome to 3reef.It probably would be good to wait another week before adding another fish,it's good to build up your biological filtration(bacteria) slowly. You have so many options for a next fish.It would be good to get an idea for a stock list of fish you would like to keep eventually. That would make it easy for people to advise on your next addition.

I am not sure what fish would be a good next step. It is a bit overwhelming looking at all the fish at my local fish store. I also get the feeling they would sell me just about anything I could afford. I would like non aggressive fish that would be ok with coral down the road. The more colorful the better!

You might consider dwarf or medium-bodied lionfish, scorps, stingfish or waspfish. Very cool fish, easy care, and have zero interest in corals.

Check out some of these...they're definitely different:

    Here's what I have in my 75...

    2 clown fish
    1 firefish
    2 cleaner shrimp
    1 6 line wrasse
1 Copper band butterfly (not recommended)
1 sand sifting goby (not recommended)

And my last 2 fish will be

Thanks for the replies! I enjoy reading all the forums on here and seeing what everyone is using, stocking....ect. I bought a clown fish today along with a few hermit crabs and 2 more nice pieces of live rock. Slowly but surely my tank is looking better!
