With tons of help from Reefwerks I have my 210 gal reef tank planned out. my question is about sand and rock. I am thinking of using ds and dr a 2 in sb in the tank and a 4 in sb in the sump. Where should a buy my sand and rock. better yet any advice on free sand? and Rock? I would like to age the tank for a year before starting my reef. any advice on how to start up my tank would be most appreciated. I would like to scape the tank with dr first what typs of rock should i look at and what type of sand. How should i get my cycle going. Thanks for the help. I guess what i really need to know is if this was your tank what would you put in it and how would you get it up and running.

There are a number of places you can get the rock and sand from. A lot of people like Marco rocks.

Also, letting a tank age for a year is probably overkill. A few months is a good time frame for starting with dry rock/sand.

Also, look at Indo-Pacific Sea Farms for some good critters to seed the tank with. You can get pods, bristle worms, spaghetti worms, mini stars, etc. from them.

thanks for the info i am going to check these sources out big help. Have you heard about a product called one and only. it is bacteria in a bottle. claims to cycle tank with fish in it from the start. has enough nitrite and ammonia fixing bacteria to seed and cycle. Requires ammonia source ie fish to be present. I used a similar product with my large fresh water tanks and had good results. this product is specific to salt water reef tanks.
