Agreed. The Kovalchuck contract is a complete joke. Even though the original contract was denied, the revised was not much better. There is no reason teams should be even allowed to give 10+ year contracts. Look how well that worked out for the Islanders ;D

Only good thing is that I don't have to look at Raffi Torres' dirty mug...

The revised contract is for 5 less years than the first, and isn't anywhere near as front-loaded as the first. The first had the final 7 years of the contracts paying out $350,000/year. Now, the Hossa contract, which started all of this junk, is absolute garbage!

I'm not confident that there will be a season this year. :-[

I hope they get it ironed out as soon as possible. Fall/winter without hockey is a travesty

The NHL is taking it's highly dedicated fans for granted. For me, I just enjoy watching hockey being played at the highest level, so I doubt there is anything the NHL/NHLPA can do to get me to give up on the league. In Canada, most people are like that. It just pisses me off so much that the NHL takes that dedication for granted.

The NHL does risk losing American fans. I have a feeling this one will go on for a least half the season.

I am a former die-hard Major League Baseball fan, and after 1994, I lost interest. I have since regained my interest, but only recently, 12-13 years later. Good luck NHL.

I am the opposite; was a die-hard baseball (Red Sox) fan until the past few years. Even if they were in playoff contention I could care less. Baseball has basically completely lost me.

Hockey I will never leave as long as they are playing :)

Basketball, football and baseball have all experienced their own strikes and lockouts. It won't be the death of the sport. We're a fickle society and may pout, but we always will forgive, as they have what we want.

Yeah, I'm so bummed. I watch it no matter who is on. It will just feel like something is missing in my life the longer the lockout goes.

I am also not confident there will be a season this year, but I also think the players have less of an appetite to fight that battle again. It's too bad the league cant' seem to find any kind of sustainable relationship. At some point everybody loses money if they keep going down this road.

Plus, I was excited to see what Oates could do with the Caps here in DC...
