I just bought my first biorb, 8gal; can't concentrate over the noise of the pump and the surface of water is bubbly like a pot of boiling water. I'm afraid to put my goldfish in. What should I do?

it should not be so noisy....Are you certain it is put together correctly. What makes the most noise...lets start there.

The pump vibration is the noise, it sounds like an electric razor.

is it vibration against the glass or stand? or the motor making noise from within itself ?
could be a faulty pump...happens with kits sometimes.

it's the motor itself. It came with the biorb kit. It makes the same sound when it's in my hands so I don't think putting it on something would make a difference. Do you agree?

yes..They should not be loud at all. Shoot a video of it and post it while it is running and making noise....some of the others members may chime in also if they can hear and see it.

If its an impeller pump, they make a nasty noise when they're running dry. When you say the noise is the same wet or dry, I have to consider the possibility it is running dryer than it should. If the water level is low somehow, that could be the problem.

If you can pull it out and run it separate, try sticking it in a tub of water fully submerged then plugging it in (keeping hands and the plug dry of course). If it is quieter in that position, that would be an indication of the nature of your problem.
