I used a pipe cutter on the PVC I used 1" Thin pipe to make up for the lack of the 1/4 inch. I tested it with a hose and it seems to work really good.

the rubbermaid container sump was going to get used but I didn't like it
so I bought a 10 Gallon tank to make a Fuge with instead, it came out really nice but I used Silicone II on it and then started to read more about it
so I just took it apart (as a matter of fact I'm working on it now)
I was told Silicone I is okay so that's what I picked up tonight.

    I'll post some pic's when it's done.

The pvc size has little to do with amount of flow in an overflow. 3/4" can drop about 800gph with a properly dimensioned overflow box. If the upsidown U is too small (cannot hold enough water), the drop from the top of the U to the bottom of your overflow is not long enough (not creating enough suction), or the inside of your overflow is not below your waterline enough (not enough pressure to assist the suction), your not going to move much water. My overflow moves about 800gph with 3/4" pvc. I had to put a ball valve on my drop line because my pump cannot keep up.

Good information thanks... I wanted to go 3/4 so it's not so big in the tank.
I'll give it a try. The one I made seems to work very well (when I tested it with a hose but I would like it to take up less space if I can...Plus it only took about 15 min to get it done.

I built the two U shapes with 1 street EL and 1 normal. The Street EL has a socket on one side and the other is male. Thus no cutting a short piece of pipe and they fit together with only about 1/2" between the vertical pieces.

The Silicone II had Mold & Mildow on the tube and from what I understand it would of been toxic.
