Ive had a niger trigger in my tank for about 4 months now and hes probably grown 2 inches since ive had him, recently hes been spending all of his time right in front of a powerhead swooping in and out of the strong current. Swimming in the jet of water basicly.... hes become very territorial of the pump also and loves the thing. Anyone know why? ive heard it might be because hes having trouble adapting to captivity? Can anyone give me some advice or knowledge?

I've got a theory: triggers are wierd. I had a picasso trigger that swim up and down the corner of my aquarium every morning.

YES!!!.... he does that also but only in one corner of the tank, its like he can see himself there and he just swims up and down up and down, ahahahha. I beleive ill have to second that theory so far. I just got a picasso today from my LFS, a marijuana dispencery had him and wanted to get rid of him. Hes the friendliest fish, i can pet him. HAHA! its badass!

IMO the behaviour you described of the swimming into the stream of the powerhead
is just the Trigger having fun
I have had a few different fish do this, latest one was a clown fish, who did not seem to appreciate he had no business taking on that much flow and was literally hurled across the tank when he got fatigued

My trigger had anger issues and tried to eat every fish in the tank, all of them being much larger. Seems I had a bad apple

Are they the greatest or what! I had "Mr. Plum" for 7 years. He let me pet him and I would play games with him. He would let me grab him with the plastic tongs and make figure eights with him. I would move and hide some of the rock or decorative stuff in the tank and he would find it and put it back. I was sad when he finally went.
Keep an eye on him if he is hanging around the power head, yes, they may just do that, but on the hand it may be agitated by ich, flukes or some other malady.
