I have 2 triggers, niger and pink tail in a reef tank. They are, by far, my favorite fish. There is a FOWLR being planned just because of these fish. Here is my experience with them:
    1) Definitely NOT invert safe - I have witnessed both eating shrimps, snails and hermit crabs.
    2) I have never seen them eat any corals...yet....I have a mixed reef of softies, lps and a few sps.
    3) Size - the niger is about 4" and the pink tail is about 6", both are being put in a 265 FOWLR when it is ready. Both of these triggers get very big.
    4) Both of them are fairly aggressive - I am not able to add anything new to the tank at this time because they will harass any newcomer.

Just my personal experience with these fish.

Still a little guy. You've had him six months and he's only 2"? They usually grow fairly fast.

When Nigers are young, they tend to be more shy than adults. Since they like to dig around in the substrate and search the rocks for food, they will only become more destructive as they grow in a reef environment. When they're small, they work fairly well in a reef, though.

So if they eat your CUC how do you keep your tank nice and clean???
I'd love to get a Niger trigger someday when I have space for yet another tank.

The bigger the tank the less problems with aggression. Cool fish, hard to remove though likes to hide inside of ur rock work.

I had a 5-6" Niger for a few months and I never saw him eat any of my certh snails, but I think he may have eaten the hermit crabs.. He never touched any of the soft corals. He was SO beautiful, I keep thinking of getting another but I have 5 or so pep shrimp and a bunch of hermits now.....may be worth the sacrifice though

Just got a Niger trigger for my 120 gal reef. (New tank with rock from the previous life of this tank.) It is about 3 1/2 inches long. I added him simultaneously with 2 yellow-bellied blue damsels, which he proceeded to kill by ripping their fins off. So, your mileage may vary. ;)

What kind of critters do you have in your reef. Keep any eye on them and let me know how the Niger does.
