It is a dry heat, yeah right !
There is a good chance that he will eat all shrimp, crabs, urchins and prehaps some snails. When forging they may rearrange smaller pieces of LR and they knock corals over. Commonly they are not corals eaters but pick at corals and can nip clams, and re-arrange the rockwork. I think they are best in fish only systems.

I have had a niger for 3 years in reef tank without problems. Their are no crabs or shrimp in my tank so idk about them. Mine was pretty docile but that could change fish to fish. Its probably one of the better triggers to try in a reef.

i've had a niger in my reef system for approx. 6mo. He hasnt bothered any corals/fish or rockwork....and am curious where he will go cause he sleeps in this hole in a rock that he will definitely outgrow. He hasn't bothered any snails, clam, or crabs in my tank that I have seen but wouldn't surprise me if he's snacked on a crab or snail. Main concern are inverts with the niger trigger and as stated would be the best choice, have heard of pink tail triggers being in a reef as well

compared to other triggers, nigers are very calm and docile. they are the only ones with success with keeping with other fish pretty much. such as the undulate trigger will kill anything that moves
