Also there was a post about this..

    Seachem Purigen

Seems to work really well from what others are saying. I'm going to try it.

Sulphur denitrators do work, but you also have to run the water line through a calcium carbonate reactor too, as the sulphur turns your water acidic.

They do work, but are fiddley

If i was you mate - in a tank as young as yours just keep up with the water changes.

    use Purigen myself - 0 Nitrates on a 18 month old 70

but totally agree that in FOWLR - no drastic action is required anyway

the decision to purchase SPS corals was the motivator for me to do something to 0 my nitrates
purigen achieved it in 2 weeks ( 10% water changes as per normal) I was borderline 10ppm prior to the introduction of Purigen

The sulfur denitrator they are selling at ebay comes with sulfur and aragonite mixed together. Also the output tube should also set above the water line so oxygen can replenish the water containing low O2. I personally place the output tube near the skimmer. I constantly checking my pH and its always been the same 8.4. The only problem right now is that it causes unwanted smell if not tune correctly.

ok so how much? according to seachem web page 1000ml (1 liter) treats 1000 gallons of water...so i have a 36 gallon tank...so it is a one:eek:ne ratio....1 ml treats 1 gallon...so i am going to put 1 teaspoonful..which is 5ml's in the apothecary system...in a mesh bag...would that suffice or should i put a little more?????????

Hi rphman - the stuff purigen removes is being constantly created in your tank so just using enough for the volume of water you have would mean it would be exhausted/ removed all it can in a short period of time and you might end up regenerating or replacing (convenience or you dont want to mess with bleach etc)

You can buy it in small packs the Purigen is in a mesh bag and treats 100 gallons of water - I would use that size pack and it will last a few weeks without going dark brown (time to regenerate)

user tip - the granules are small, and some can escape the mesh bag it in,so sandwhich the mesh bag in some filter floss to prevent this and to prevent the purigen mesh bag getting clogged up with rubbish

just remove and rinse in old tank water weekly when you do water change and that will also prevent it being clogged up with particles and thus having its efficiency reduced
