yeh its possible...and to tell u the honest truth..my 125 (when i had it set up) ran at 30-40ppm on a constant...even with water changes and everything...and i had it for over 3 years before moving everything into a 265....and everything grew, reproduced, and lived and i had both sps and lps in it...so dont pull ur hair out...just try to get it under control at a pace u r comfortable with...consistancy is key in this hobby and doing something drastic could be way more detrimental than 50ppm nitrates IMO

    Okay thanks!

What about the 29g? If its running 70ppm, would it be a bad thing to move everything over tonight after the water change?

the animals can stand high nitrates if they were aclimated to them slowly. My dad had a tank with nitrates over 100, with lps and fish as well as a anemone. while there growth was stunted, it is a testament to what they can with stand.

just to point out: surviving isn't thriving.

...And I was worried about my readings of 5ppm...

Sorry to hear that your having troubles but like others have mentioned I think your test is somehow not accurate.

API test kits come with very detailed instructions. One is to wait 5 minutes for most of the tests to read the results. Not right away, not 10 minutes later.

One of the other instructions is to rinse the test tubes immediately after use because the tube will get stained and you won't get true readings and because you're leaving reagent and salt in there, which is also not going to give you true readings.

I rinse mine immediately and let them dry. They're always clean & dry the next time I need to test.
