Yeah, it was rough the first few months, but now that were all in good shape its not as bad..But still very time consuming. But it is a great way to get in shape that for sure!!!

Okay, just got done testing it is still high nitrates..still at like 75 or soo..I did a 10g water change(5g yesterday,5g today) and nothing has changed..I am guessing it is test kit or something wrong..Ill get water tested at LFS and see whats up.

Don't want to hijack the thread but I'm having the same issue...been doing 5gal water changes every week in my BC29 rinsing sponge, rinsing chaeto, new filter media every 2 weeks yet my API kit reads somewhere between 80-160 (this test kit is the worst for nitrates if you ask me).

Besides doing what I'm already doing and maybe feeding less, what else could I do to lower my nitrates?
Should I look into media bags? Any suggestions on media bags?
Should I throw some LR rubble in my chamber 2 fuge with my chaeto?

Do you know that your nitrates are high? Or are you just going by that one test kit. Try others, different stores, etc.

Also for those of you with API test kits...I know it says to wait the allotted time and then look at the color of the test tube "against the white of the color card", but I noticed that having the test tube right against the card will create a shadow that can make your reading ~100ppm higher. Are you doing this or giving your test tube some breathing room between itself and the white of the card?
