nitrates.. could too much same be the cause

    What size is your tank, type of filtration, lighting, is there live rock?, do you have a cuc, how old is the set up, things of that nature will help.

    On the firefish, the body of one firefish wouldn't come close to spiking the nitrates of a 75 gallon tank, especially for a week when you're changing that much water.
