Lighting is being replaced, that is certainly one of my issues. Old bulbs, cheap brand = not good, but would that directly affect Nitrate levels?

I have been doing 5 gallon/%10 water changes every three days or so for a couple of weeks now. I don't want to shock the system by doing too much at one time because everything in my tank looks healthy.

I put some chemipure elite into the canister along with some regular carbon. It hasn't seemed to help much. The bio-pellets and special reactor should do a much better job I think, I hope.

I might have to try that. Do you use one of those terrarium heat lamp fixtures or just any old fixture will do?

    Works like a charm ;D

Just one of those clamp on worklights that are like 5 bucks. I had to remove the reflector from mine because it wouldn't fit under my stand, so its just a bare bulb suspended above the fuge.

A single 14w T8 bulb, and I bought the thing used so there's no telling how old it was. Thanks again!

IME, the lower the nitrates, the better for SPS growth and color... It's possible to get to zero with a heavily stocked tank and generous feeding regimen if you are using biopellets, just fyi. With 50+ total inches of fish in my tank, and feeding every day, I have zero nitrates running pellets.
