    I have never heard that before. Anyone else hear that before, or better yet who doesnt vacuum there sand?

    I don't vacuum the sand, and I have seen plenty of gunk move up when I have moved things around.

    In the case of a DSB(don't know if that's what you have) you should disturb the sand as little as possible. That's not to say you can't or shouldn't siphon the top clean of detritus, but you should not dig or stir up the sand intentionally. Doing so can and/or will raise your nitrates in a fast way. Leave the digging or stirring to your CUC....

    if you have under 2" of sand or cc bed in tank vacuum all you want. over 3"+ deep do top 1/2" with vacuum.. is my general rule for my tank.
