During my cycling process, I've had my lfs test my water for the past couple weeks, and it seems as though my nitrite levels were low, but then rose and are now looking like they'll stay!?! Is this a normal part of a cycle and is there anything i can do to fix this? Like getting an additive or just waiting or what:confused:

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
What stage of the cycle are you in?

I would buy your own test kit, a quality one.

    What is the nitrate level?

I am currently in the stage where Ive hit about a month of cycling. My Nitrates are at 10ppm. My Nitrites are at about 5.0ppm.

Ok then I would not be too concerned.

If you used cured live rock they should probably be lower.

If you used dry base rock or uncured live rock you are about right.

If you used any products like Dr.Tims or equiv you are behind.

I would not be too concerned until you get to 6 weeks.

Oh you had ammonia, you just missed the spike. Nitrogen cycle: Decay= Ammonia, nutrifying bacteria convert the ammonia to nitrites, then another type of beneficial bacteria convert the nitrites to nitrates.

You are on track no worries. Yes I would add small amounts of fish food every couple days to keep those beneficial bacterial multiplying.

    :)

Thanks a lot! That helped me big time! So you think the Nitrites will go down on their own, eventually?
