    Nitrites take at least twice as long as ammonia to go back down to 0. Be patient as you have been advised.

    I just finished cycling my 55, my nitrites and nitrates both went through the roof, too high for my test kit to read. Then a little less than a week later and they both dropped on their own. I did not do a water change till after they dropped. Patience is so hard but it does pay off. I started with 40 lbs each of dry rock and sand, and 10 lbs partially cured dry rock. Added cocktail shrimp to get the ammonia going
