After reading up some more on raising nitrite lvls after they dropped to 0, I must mention I did disturb the sandbed, I repositioned a powerhead for better flow, at the time it looked great, 12 hours later I had a crater in the sand, so much so I could see the bottom glass, around 2 inch, this may have contributed to the nitrite lvl riseing again ?

I would say that's possible but your sand bed is relatively new so probably not. I think Renee is right in that your cycle is not completed yet. Do you have some prime or something similar to it to add if your ammonia spikes again?

    How big is your tank?

This won't have anything to do with your numbers, but what type of reactor did you add?

I would say your still trying to cycle also. Your tank really didn't have any bacteria to start with & you now have two fish. The fish are likely adding more waste than what you have in bacteria.

Tank is a 55 gallon 2ft cube with sump, reactor was a bubble magus 100, the chromis is barely a inch in size and was added to aid in the cycle, the clown I was holding for a friend and he should be returned shortly, I thought the cycle had finished because the nitrite did drop to 0, this happened after the 3rd week and apart from soft ciral I have added no other fish just 2 snails/2 hermits to tackle algae

Sorry oldfishkeeper I missed your post, no prime or other but I take it this will help control an ammonia spike, I will go to my lfs and see what they have, thanks and karma to all

Don't hold off on water changes. Won't harm your cycle, will make the fish you already have in there much happier.
