    Interesting – can you describe your set up? (Often times there is a culprit such as aging media that can cause these types of issues)

    Have you tested your make-up water? If not please do – in order to one rule it out and also put your test kit to the test – sort of speak.

    I do not suggest changing sand, or for that matter anything until you rectify this current situation – Is everything in your tank appearing as it should? Any noticeable issues? Algae, sickness etc.

    It might be worth giving your sand a siphon using a gravel vac to remove any built up detritus. What is the exact level of nitrates in the tank? How long have the mangroves been in there for?

    my set up is as follows 40 gallon tank with an over flow box that drains through a sponge to a 20 gallon sump...in my sump is a first chamber of lr and 200 bio balls,that spills over into another chaimber that holds a mesh filter bag full of lr rubble and man groves,and that spills over to the final compartment that holds the return pump and any media such as carbon or phos-remover ect..in the main tank i have crused coral bedding...about 60 lbs of lr a wave maker not sure what size and a 808 power head along with the return flow...i have 2 small damsels,starry bently,small puffer,med size butterfly,and my new water is fine i test it when i get it no tap water...and my test kit is ok not exp.so i dont know what to do
