Nitro does have a longer runtime, but not much if your running lipo. Either way its not recomended to just refill or recharge and keep going. You will fry either engine (electric or nitro) if you don't let it cool down between runs.
I would say take into account what you will be using it for and who, if any, you be running with. If your friends have nitro I would get that, if they run electric get that. If your just gonna be bashing in a feild or running out in front of your house, take all that into account.

Best is a 1/4 scale with a small 2 stoke engine. They are much better built. Might not be as fast but they're alot of fun. You can even turn a go kart into an RC car.

thats why with a 2stroke gas engine you can run it till your batteries go dead, tank after tank....no need to let it cool btween runs, but usually you'll break something first LOL!!

I tried to get my oldest (8) into it, got him an electric stampede. He showed very little interest.
On another note I'm planning on getting a brushless revo.
I used to race as well, rc 10 back when that was the top dog. Ya I'm gettin old

They're actually pretty close to the same costs if you take into account both speed and run time. I remember with my nitro car I could run it for quite a while. That sucker had a nice runtime. But run time isn't a really smart aspect to measure with a car, because there are always things you can do to increase the run time, for nitro and electric. And throttle control also plays a big part in it. If you're driving around at WOT the whole time, you're going to have a shorter run time.

Yes, Lipos are dangerous when disrespected. However, I store mine (I have brushless RC planes) in a fire safe, and I always charge them with a cell balancer. You just have to respect the batteries. I have an old old lipo that's taken a beating and probably isn't techincally safe to have, but I still have it. No problems. I plan on taking it to a dry field and shooting it one day to watch the fun...but for now it's safe.

On the other hand nitro is highly flammable. That stuff burns really hot for a long time. With nitro you have to deal with the mess and deal with air filters and after run oil and air filter oil as well as filling the fuel tank and buying glow plugs and a glow igniter and all that crap. With electric, it's simply plug and play. Charge the battery, plug it in, turn it on, go.

Also, (most) electrics are quieter. Although some super brushless motors like MEGA motors can really scream. So if noise is an issue, choose electric.

Another difference is speed and power throughout the run. With nitro, the car has a tenency to actually speed up and accelerate faster as the fuel weight drops and the engine heats up, although this isn't really noticable. Meanwhile with electric, as voltage in the battery decreases, the car loses speed and acceleration. Most of the time you can tell this is happening, if only for a bit. The very start of the drive is crisp and speedy, the middle majority is what you expect, and the end starts telling you "hey, this battery's dying".

Electrics can have the same top speed and run time, and they're super simple to use and much cleaner. Their noise has its own "beastliness" to it.

But nothing beats the sound and smell and the feel of power with a nitro. Knowing you have a real "gas" engine making that car vroom, instead of a little motor that evolved from CDROM motors. Yes they're messier, but to those who drive nitro it's worth it and just a part of the experience. Nitro seems to be alot of work for alot of satisfaction, while electric is just plug and play insanity in a box. :)

I still have my rc10 at my friends house. He put it all back together for me its not really fast as I remember. Maybe the motor is shot...any idea what I could put into it?

More than likely its the battery that's your issue. Look into a castle creations mambe series brushless setup, and prob some new batteries. It will scream

The batteries that I had with it wouldn't even hold a charge so I used friends set and I know they were goog. I think it was a 3300. Not sure on brand though. When I mean it was slow I mean it was a little faster then a brisk walk maybe a jog lol. So I was thinking it was the motor or the speed controller.
