Throw in a couple a cubes of mysis(be generous) or a piece of raw shrimp in there and wait a couple of more weeks. You might not have had enough die off to kick off the cycle. You should have definitely seen spikes in your params.

We've probably shared a somewhat similar scenario...started our tank just about 2 weeks ago now with "cured" LR from our LFS which is right down the street. Hence, we had extremely little die-off, so we did not really observe the "traditional" new tank nitrogen cycle we are accustomed to seeing. Fortunately, we tested Ammonia and Nitrite each and every day since our tank's birth, and we were able to catch small and quick Ammonia and Nitrite spikes.

Given the time span...probably should be picking something up with the Nitrates. But I definitely wouldn't sweat it...since it's empty and all...you can always toss something into it that will get it going and then just wait it out...sustained patience is definitely the key...since technically any added bio-load, in a new or mature tank, still moves through the cycle...just at different rates...

Sounds like what My tank did kinda. I put in my water, 40lbs LS, very small amount of LR (2lbs) :) and I tested my water the next day. Not really ever planning on a cycle or anything. My nitrates showed 10 and nitites and Am showed 0. now get this I don't even have lights or a heater for my tank yet. So my water temp is 72-74 at the time. So what's up with that I have no clue

Oh yah and last night I noticed a very very small star on the glass ( no clue as to what kind) and the night before I found what looked to be a very small copid or babie brain shrimp in my tank. I haven't found him sence.

So did my tank cycle? I'm not sure. I was told "it might have" lol
so I'm planning on putting in a little blue fish that is really hardy that only cost $10 (can't thank of the name) and see if it lives. If not well I guess I will get my cycle I wanted lol. This is after I get my heater put in of course.

Don't know if that helps but atleast you know your not alone :)

Your fish sounds like a blue-green chromis...or maybe one of the damsels. Personally prefer fish-less cycling and just using live rock, but to each their own. Not sure how large your tank is or how much rock is already in it...but I'm guessing you'll definitely want more than 2 lbs. And absolutely agree with you on the challenge of telling when your cycle is actually complete.
