Just so I know, if this Hurricane hits and I lose electricity how long will my fish hold out for? I do have live rock, and just did a water change today...

4 hours, depending on the size of the tank. get a car inverter(50 bucks) and extension cords, if you can't afford a generator and fill your car up with gas, that way you can at least plug in your filter. Don't even look to rent one. I worked at a big time generator rental co in Orl. during Charley, Francis and Jeanne and they don't rent small ones and the big ones will be gone, rented by FEMA. Plus the price for a 500amp "Crawford" goes for about 3 grand a week. Go buy a small honda generator, if you can still find one at HD or Lowe's and that will work perfectly and you can run your fridge too....they're anywhere from 3-800 dollars depending on what kind you get. Hope for the best, Prepare for the worst!

Since I live in an apartment complex, I have one of those big air pumps that are for bait tanks.....the ones that you connect to a car battery. It will provide oxygen but it won't clean the water. It's gotten me through a lot of power outages before though.

The car inverter is a great ideal if you have a low budget, it will get you by for a little while.

Go to Grand Slam, Fishing Head Quarters, Jupiter Bait or Wal-Mart and for about $10 get a battery operated air pump. Two D batteries will run it for 12 hours.

The inverter got my 55 through Charley, but for the rest, we "borrowed";) a 60kw and powered us and the tourists across the street. I got to do laundry and had a/c all the way through the other ones....;D
