    Ok so My tank has been up for a bit over a month. I know that it's no where near stabile yet but it's doing really well. No ill inhabitants, dragonet gaining dorsal mass etc....
    Nitrate/ite/ammonia have all spiked off the charts and come back down to 0ppm on all fronts (tested again last night for accurate info on here.)
    Tank inhabitants are 9 hermits, 1 snail, 1 oscillating dragonet, 1 peppermint shrimp (2 more being added soon), hitchhiker feather duster, copious amounts of pods (all over glass.)

    I have no GHA, only some gracilaria and some other random hitchhiker macro.

    What's the deal?!?!

    I don't want to jinx the tank but I thought I would have been inundated by now *knock on wood* :shifty:

    Pics will be coming as soon as my buddy brings over his camera......Mine bit the dust :-/

    Not every tank goes through a gha phase, you need it in you tank for it to start growing. I never had a problem with GHA, although I had my fair share of nuisance algae problems.

    Whew. I'm definitely glad to know that. Thank you. I thought I may have been doing something wrong, rofl, but then I look at my livestock and they're going great!! Really active!

    What I do have is this almost lacey brown stuff on rocks.....I'll get a pic but I know theres a thread in here that I posted in where someone else had the same thing.
    Found - Link to pic in thread from other member - http://www.3reef.com/forums/569586-post3.html

    ~~~in my "Progress" thread I'd posted that my GHA had started but it ended up being this green ulva-like macro, maybe it is ulva, I know I need pics :p
    Don't worry! you will have some kind soon enough, Diatome brown, GHA, Cyano, Caulerpa just to name a few, and if your parameters are good some Coraline. I wouldn't worry too much for now of what it will be, but keep it in check and take your time let it grow while everything looks pretty and clean...lol ><))))*>
    Hi Whippy - Touch wood ( luck gesture) I have my set up now running 16 months and aside from the Diatoms from weeks 4 to about 8 - and the normal algae that develps on the tank walls, rocks and substrate , I have had none of the nuisance species thus far
    as Guitarman indicates you need the presence of GHA along with nutrients and light for it to develop, so the thing to watch for is any new additions, especially corals, as if there is some GHA present on the rock they come with, and your nutrient levels are high, thats when the issues start
    Yeah, I have this little bit of brown/green algae on the glass and I do have diatoms (only a little now) and coralline.... I'll just be happy and not think something is horribly awry, LMAO!!
    be happy! GHA is no fun! I don't get it in any of my tanks either, usually when you skip that part of the cycle, (your tank isn't old enough to get it yet anyway really unless you got bad rock - you are ending the diatom beginning the film algae stage probably), you go to cyano and film algae for awhile.
