No live rock, just base rock?

    Need help setting up my first reef tank, I would like to know if it is ok to just to use base rock and no live rock when setting up a reef? Is it ok or bad to do this and why Thanks for your help.

    From what I have read, some will say that it is totally fine since this base rock will eventually become live.

    IMO it is better because you will know what you are putting in your tank and not be alarmed when you find some unwanted pest come out of the live rock. It will take a little longer to cycle but i think it is worth it.

    i would throw in a one pound piece of live rock. just to help it along in the beginning

    Yes add a couple pieces of live rock to seed coraline.

    Just a quick way how to reseed your tank. Look at the rock with the coraline on it. Look for little whitish bumps take a wire brush and softly scrub the bumps. Place the rock in a high current area and bingo reseed (the bumps are the spores).
