I have been collecting pieces of equipment for months now, and I am ready to set up my tank Salt, and start a reef. My issue is I transfer in June with the Coast Guard, and I have to wait :furious: I am not a patient person and this is frustrating! The longer I wait the more equipment I buy for my salt aquarium that is not even running yet! I wish it was June allready!

I feel your pain, I hav to wait to start my big tank so started my 10 gallon QT tank yesterday since I had enough equipment to start it.

Good things come to those who wait????
I say those who wait get the leftovers of those who didn't.

But in this hobby I guess one must be patient. ~sigh~

If you have a hard time with patience then this is not the hobby you should open you wallet to. You can sit back and spend the time engineering the system so you can do it right the first time.

At least you will have good equipment not cheap stuff to just get by with .

This is a perfect opportunity to do tons of research so you are less likely to have some of the regular startup problems. Where are you transferring to? if you dont mind my asking.

+1 on patience. Glad to see you're at least holding off until the transfer. I've known people that setup a tank for a few months and barely get the thing cycled before they have to tear it down again, and they knew it going into it. Kind of ridiculous.
Keep on researching, I've been researching constantly for almost 2 years now and I'm still finding out new stuff about how these systems run all the time. There's no shortage of stuff to do while you wait!

Do you have your stock list created, and thoroughly researched every animal on it, are you comfortable with the power consumption and efficiency of all of your equipment, do you understand how every piece of equipment works and why it works?

Let us know if you want stuff to read/research/learn about I'm sure there are lots of people that could give you weeks worth of reading in a few minutes. :D

I understand your pain though, it's hard to wait. Good luck. :)

I am transferring to Sector Great Lakes in Milwaukee, WI. But I will be living on board Naval Station Great Lakes, and commuting. I have been researching for months, and I feel I have a pretty good grasp on things, and the way that the equipment works. In reality I am using all equipment allready except for the Refugium, and the Protein Skimmer in my Freshwater setup. I am annoyed that I have to wait, because I want to begin cycling soon, but I am can definately wait, and do it right. As far as my Stocking list here it is:

It is a 46 gallon bow front. Assuming all fish will survive untill adulthood, the max size of all fish combined is 29 inches at full size.

And much more frequent water changes. IMO that's a little overstocked. But why do I get the feeling...ah nevermind. :)
