It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Oh my!

I sure hope it turns out ok.

If you have a gas hot water heater, fill up the sink with hot water and fill some containers with SW and place them in the sink some what submerged to heat up. Even if you do not have gas the hot water heater, they are usually so well insulted that water stays hot or warm for along time.

For oxygen I usually just remove some tank water and pour it back into the tank at a high enough level that it allows for enough O2 to break the surface sending micro bubbles throughout the tank. I do that about every one to two hours.

    Good luck.

After the power comes back on I would really look into a Battery backup like the ones they use for computers and plug in only pumps and heater. I am thinking of getting one I dont really get any long term power outs but i never know when it will happen. Good Luck

dont get the battery backup. Go pick ya up a little honda 2 cycle portable generator this will power your heater and returns. The battery backup is ok but it will not power your stuff for very long as the little generator will run for as long as you can fill it with gas.

This is not the one I have is much much bigger but something like this is more than good for what you need. If you have a harbor frieght tools in your area or near you this is always a good place to get tools have a few of there motors on yard stuff I have here they are good

Thanks everyone for all your help!
I just got home with a coleman stove, two propane tanks (the small ones), two air pumps and their batteries (found at walmart next to the live bait containers), a bag of ice and a couple of containers to put the ice inside and then float it in the aquarium water.

So, 17 hours later and $140 dolars more broke, the power is back on!
As I'm pulling to my place I saw the light was on in the tank, so that was a relief. All fish are accounted for, except for my CB (Coral Beauty) which I haven't seen since 4:30 this morning. I was up all night, agitating the water and keeping an eye on the temp, so I'm hoping he's just a little stressed or recovering behind the rocks in the crevices. I do think that siphoning the water into a 5 gallon bucket and slowly pouring it back in the tank to create bubbles really did help much more than anything else I did.

I can say, that other than the gas generator, I bought everything I need, in case this happens again.

I kept saying and thinking that this would never happen to me, we never get long power outages. Never been more than 1 hour and I've lived in this place for 3 years. I never bought anything "just in case", except the GFCI plugs in case of flood, so I don't burn my equipment and boil my fish.

I'm ready now... I only hope I don't lose my CB because of my naive way of thinking and a pretty limited amount of cash.

Thanks again for all your help, guys. You always know exactly what to do in an emergency.

    Magnus,

those storms knocked out power out too. but only for a few hours. In April (when teh tornadoes tore thru alabama, we were without for 24 hours. Unfortunately, we were out of town 1000 miles away. my tank sat completey undisturbed for 16 straight hours until a friend could get to our house with a UPS batter backup and hook up a koralia and a battery powered air pump. I was very lucky to have only lost a few corals due to the power issue. the battery backup ran for about 10 more hours till the power came back on. Fortunately, my buddy disconnected my Ecobak before it came on or we would have had complete meltdown.

I now have a generator and next weekend will be putting in place a backup circuit to be able to feed it into my power panel. I got to use it for 3 hours yesterday to keep everything going good. it is a large 5000 watt unit so I can run everything on my tank plus the fridge and freezer.

Glad to hear you are good. it might be worth the $100 to get a good battery backup.

Thanks, bud! I'm glad things turned out the way they did. I checked the news on my phone that day and remember thinking "Oh.. sh!7!!"
But some people are still without power today. So I guess I was somewhat lucky.

Everyone is doing very good in the tank, with a couple of exceptions, but this isn't due to the power outage, since it was going on before that.

This is just what I was going to say, we bought 2 as well and a LARGE pack of batteries. It has worked so far and they are pretty cheap and do a great job at keeping o2 levels up which i have found is the biggest issue when my power goes out (heat stays pretty good and so forth. I also have the computer battery backup but as stated it does not last very long at all with everything running, i only from a K nano powerhead off it and it lasts about 3 hours with one backup battery as well. Anything above the nano it lasts for about 20 mins.
