So as many of you may have not heard southern Illinois has had what they call a inland hurricane. 108 mph sustained winds with gusts up to 160 mph. the storm was 30 miles wide and I have not had power since Friday the 8th. I do have a generator and have been running my 2 salt water tanks and my fridge on 3 to 5 hour stints. I have already used up 60 gallons of gas and it really sucks now. Although my construction company has been doing great my trees on my property have not I lost 30 trees in 10 acres.
So on to my tanks. so far I have not lost anything but my 36 has started to become cloudy in morning after no flow for 8 - 10 hours. MY 75 has been doing good to. Before the storm I lost 2 fish due to new rock work but never really found the cause. I also have not had time to do tests due to the needs of my family and my customers which many didn't have roofs on Friday, mostly shingle damage.
But to all those out there that wanted to know if fish can survive on a minimal basis for 7 days now. Well it can be done. The first 2 days I didn't run lights now there is only about 3-5 hours of light a day for my coral and they are making it. I probably won't be posting for until next weekend so wish me luck. I also cut feeding down to a small pinch of pellets a day due to lack of filtration. have fun

I feel for you, we went through a similar situation this winter, but in 20 degree weather. Sounds like you are doing good so far, just hand in there and you'll be ok,

    Best of Luck

That is the exact reason why I bought a hole house generator. When Ike came inland and up through the states we lost power here in Indiana for 39.5 hours and my generator only used about 17% of our 250g tank out back. Not bad for running the whole house. I would recommend one to everyone that keeps livestock in their house. Plus I have a whole deep freeze full of beef too that I would of lost.

    Hope you get power soon.

When we bought this house we were told, "there are a lot of power outs in this area". A whole house gen was one of the first things I added to the place, along with a 500g tank to run it. Most of the time it only runs for a few minutes at a time. But it's good to know it's there when I really need it.

whole house gen would have been nice but we made it through just fine with a 5500 watt and 120.00 in gas later. We didn't even run it 24/7 but o well. 9 days no power and my colt coral actually grew. So the tank didn't suffer at all. fish and all made it now it is time for a shower. haven't had one in 4 days. thanks for all the good luck.
