Hello, lurking here a few days. I have had freshwater fish now for almost 20 years. Not much exciting. Have become excited as I found out two of my coworkers have had salt tanks. I always stayed away because they were so hard to keep up compared to fresh water fish. However I think a salt water tank may be well worth the extra work.

I am in Tipton IN and don't think it is a very active hobby here so I will need a lot of extra helkp when I finnaly decide 30g, 55 gal 75 gal. Corals no corals aand how much budget I need to have for this hobby. I also need to find some one close so when I leave home for a week, someone can take care of/check on the fish.

PS, the wife thought Iwas crazy, now she is on board with me.

    Thanks
    Roger

welcome to 3reef worm. you might be surprised how the "work' load isnt really that bad. i find it relaxing and enjoyable. if you stay up on things and do regular bits of maintenance its quite easy. and also the learning curve is huge. start simple and advance as you learn more. and this is the site to be to start. great people and advice

Welcome to 3Reef! As a former FW guy, I can say that a properly set up marine tank is not any more work than a fresh water one.

Hello and welcome to 3reef :). Ask as many questions as you want too. And to be honest, this hobby is not a cheap date, consider spending a few thousand dollars for everything depending which route you go.

i would just say theres more variables.
i would say a reef tank is as complex as a fully decked out planted tank.

and like you said the key to both is just commitment to the schedule you lay out after research
