No sand in sump.... how deep in DT?

    i am not planning on putting any sand in my sump. I will have a skimmer and macro algae in the sump. Do i need a deeper sand bed in the DT if im not going to have a DSB in the sump? I was going to aim for about 1" in the DT.:confused:

    1" will be fine specially if you are using very fine sand.

    Deep sand beds that cannot be isolated from main tank, are prone to problems in the event of a long period power out (rapidly deplete the oxygen from the system) and they also give you more issues should you ever move the tank

    wow!!! you guys are wicked fast! Thanks alot. I am using very fine, black sand. Caribsea Tahitian Moon. Im super stoked!!! I just turned the lights on for the first time and it already looks sweet!
