Yesterday had small fire behind 75 gallon reef tank due to cheap power strip and salt water getting on it. Nothing really got damaged, have cut back right now down to bare necessatities of tank (skimmer, sump, korala) Unsure about status of UV, heater is fried will be replacing that today, chiller is off, various other pumps and things are off.

In process of switching tanks to 125, painting room, tore down furniture for new furniture (so basically everything is a mess) and I misplaced my test kits and can not find them. I did not see any type of resin in the sump and the flame looked like it was on the outside of the stand, and it went out as soon as I threw the switch. I did add carbon yesterday, and I added 2x dose of Prime to be safe.

Fish are still eating great, T down to 75-so why I am getting heater, must have dropped during night...VERY UNUSUAL FOR MY TANK, but my foxface, my blue hippo tang and my goat has ick. The foxface seems like he has been affected the worse which is surprising because I would have thought the hippo would have worse.

Question is.... Is it better to leave the carbon in the system, or to treat with No Sick Fish. I had great results 1 time with it, and then honestly the last time I treated not so much (my other possessed tank thats coming down for some reason had Ick or something all the time and nothing lived no matter what....the evil spirit has moved into this tank since there is no livestock in the other to possess) I have started adding metro and focus with the food and always use garlic. I also use a mixture of different frozen and flake food, and the fish eat better then I do, so they get the right nutrition. And I am too afraid to plug in the UV sterilizer until someone who knows anything about electricity looks at the plug.

    Thanks again for any suggestions

75 Degrees isnt to bad, my tanks have been running at 75.9 to 77 degrees since I moved them downstairs and everything looks great. Far cry form the 82 to 86 that they were ruinning at upstairs 2 weeks ago.

As far as the UV sterilizer goes go to hardware store and buy a replacment plug and put it on, it is really simple honest.

I promise, if I do that, the whole house will burn down to the ground. I have not looked at how to replace plugs, everyone says that it is easy, but people have taken tools from me because I tend to cut limbs off, punch holes in the walls, etc. Just yesterday I sliced open my finger polishing a metal light plate:confused:. 2 days ago I fell off a ladder painting. If I survive just painting my condo it is going to be amazing......noooo, noooo not a good idea at all!!!:fireman: Fireman Joe says no to me playing with anything electrical.

Usually its the outlet that takes the beating, not the plug. The plug should be fine as long as its not melted and showing bare wire somewhere.

I had a similar issue a couple months ago when a turbo snail clogged my Durso and flooded the display. Ultimately it was my fault because I did not have my electrical hung and on a drip loop, so it got wet and produced fireworks. Luckily there was no fire since it happened in the middle of the night.

If the plug looks good the plug itself should be fine, you will probably need to replace the bulb in the UV, if it still works.

Sorry to hear about it though and I hope everything turns out alright on it.

    That sucks!!

I once spilt water all over my powerhead plug but the fuse just tripped instead of a fire breaking out.

But i always worry about the number of plugs i have coming out of one outlet. I currently use a 10 plug adapter, with a built volt breaker. Not sure about US plugs, but the ones over here all have fuses in them, so hopefully if anything like that was to happen to me and the volt breaker didnt switch the fuse should burn brefore a fire starts.

No Sick Fish is considered to be snake oil. I would definitely run carbon.

Really? I've only read really bad reviews about the stuff. What product did you use of theirs that you found to be effective?
