I bought 3 lbs of lr from the lfs. When I purchased it, the rock was about 80% purple with thick layers of corraline. the first week I had it in the tank I cut pieces of it off, turned the skimmer off for an hour and let it do its thing. Its been about 4 weeks now and the rock looks greyish brown with a tiny bit of purple. Just woundering if all is well. I think my water param is good enough for it to thrive. just woundering how long all this stuff takes to mature and if its safe to add corals. My lr was covered with this long hairy brown and green algae so I took the rock out and scrubbed it all down, was time for a water change anyway. I just need to know if everything is going well. its been a week since I scrubbed all the algae off. all the brown hair stopped growing and now less thick green algae is growing back. I was woundering how long it takes for the rock to turn purple.
I have no test for magnesium yet, but my phos, nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia are 0. Calcium around 480.:confused::confused:

I heard somewhere that if you video taped yourself talking to the tank while rubbing the glass and posted it here, the coraline would grow faster

Hahahaha very funny, the one thing I learned in this hobby is you have to have patience. Well everyone is looking happy, at the moment I have 1 pistol shrimp that I never see, a percula with a great personality, and a scooter blenny. I got the scooter to eat formula one he gulped one down, I was worried he would starve from the lack of pods in my tank. I added 1 bottle of tigger pods I figured they would multiply but I haven't really seen that many lately. Should I get another bottle?

they are a coldwater species, and don't reproduce well in warmer tropical tanks. another bottle probably won't help much.

Speaking of my algae I pulled a hand full of it out last night, but theres still alot I was woundering if (I think its GHA not sure its green some of it gets really long up to 3 inches and its all over the tank). I have cut my lighting down to 5 hours all parameters are fine. Will this go away on its own or do I keep removing it manually?

My secret to corraline is to dose DT's 3 part cal, alk, mag every 3 days. It will grow on everything including the glass, power heads and even the snail and hermit crab shells.

there is not enough information in this thread to pinpoint your issue beyond the fact you have an issue. Phosphates, Nitrates and calcium is not enough to go on.

Carbonate Alkalinity and Strontium are key components.
