Now that I have a Bird it unbelievable the crap that we allow in our air. The bird, Having very sensitive lungs, has had us researching it's care. We have come up with a thousand things that can kill your average parrot. Like Teflon if over heated gives of a gas that will kill a bird in seconds. Now, OK, our lunges are a little more tolerant, but over long periods of time what is this crap doing to us. You have Frabreez what the hell is in that stuff, it obviously a chemical that coats everything so what are the long term effect of that. I'm a huge smoker but I do it outside and I don't bring any scented crap into my house. I also use all natural cleaners and soaps.

So my Rant had nothing to do with what we are talking about so I'll shut up now :)

It makes you think twice for sure. This is one of the reasons I am a firm believer in keeping fresh carbon in my tank. For those people that don't like water changes have you ever thought that you maybe slowly poisening you fish to death? I don't know if there is a single method to remove toxins. It would be interesting to send in a water sample to a lab from a tank that has been up for 5 years. There has to be all kinds of nasties in that water.

That it my next DIY project is a protective Bubble ;D

I heard that you once used your sump as a water bong :)

Do you have any provisions to help filter out these poisons (nicotine, soap, scented oil, etc.)? Since you are waterchangeaphobic and all.

    SF,

Not specifically. I have never smoked inside my home, so that's not an issue. The use of aerosols is also limited.

You are not really going to bait me on this one mate, try harder next time :)

By the way I do run Carbon and Chemi Pure in a Fluval 404.

Well, none of ya's should be smokin' anyways...it's bad for you!

Jason....don't let all you read scare you about the bird....altho the teflon issue is real...I have seen that first-hand at a friends house. But I have had birds for 15 years, I use Febreeze all the time ;D,

As for the candles....with birds (and I would guess fish), my rule has been 1) No LEAD Wicks....2) only natural oils used to scent the candle...none of that Glade or Air Freshener Crap...including sprays and plug ins :D Plus, don't burn them all the time!

FWIW, that is my 2 cents ... :D
