Hi all...I haven't been around for a while and I hope that all is well...it's summer and that means that this teacher was on the beach as much as he could be...
I moved last weekend and unsurprisingly (to all of you) moving my reef was the most stressful part of the ordeal...with my 27 point checklist and the help of a buddy i got everything moved and, this being my 2nd time doing this, was able to take it a bit slower and set things up over the course of 24 hours...it's amazing what being able to see does to my aquascaping...
Anway, the tank now lives in the corner of the dining room, which has hardwood floors...this is the furthest it's ever been away from the bedroom, which I count as a victory...but this new location (corner and hardwood floors) seems to have amplified the sounds of the setup...
To the point, any suggestions on how to dampen the sound of my tank? I feel like the biggest problem is the skimmer (AquaC Remora), not the splash and flow of water...

ever thought of trying some kind of foam (black with the big holes) attached to the part where the water runs out somehow????

Where did you move to? Are you staying in Ct?
Assuming the skimmer is inside the stand under the tank, might try putting some foam insulation boards (the pink ones you can buy at Home Depot) on the inside walls and door of the stand. Does changing the water height in the sump affect the noise from the skimmer at all?

I only moved a quarter of a mile down the road (still here in Greenwich) but the whole tank had to come apart of course. But since this was my second time moving it I was a bit more relaxed about it all. A bit......
I was contemplating the pink HD foam insulation as well. The skimmer is a Remora hang-on back that I have on my 10 gallon sump, so it's below the display, but kind of hanging out a bit. I could insulate the sides and doors, but the back would be tricky. I'm sure the pink stuff doesn't cost that much. Maybe I'll pick up a sheet and mess around with it. If nothing else, it's an excuse to go to the Despot......

Nice to see you back... :) I would try the foam as I done this on my old 55g and it worked good. Did you clean the skimmer while it was drained???

Thanks, Otty. No I didn't do the thorough clean of the skimmer that I should have. I was so worried about getting the living critters sorted out that I forgot to give the skimmer a once over.
When you used the foam in the past did you just line the 3 walls of the stand or did you create a back wall with it as well?

This is what I was talking about to dampen noise.

Oh that...yeah, I had tried that and a piece of foam carved to the shape of the chamber before when the tank was in my bedroom. I didn't notice a huge difference, but I'm sure I have both mods around somewhere...maybe I'll try them again...thanks for the reminder!
