Researching these pumps and reading reviews as well as watching videos of them in action these pumps seem kind of noisy with a constant whine that gets more noticeable as the pumps get cranked up of are used on a pulse mode.

I know we are on the third gen of these bad boys and am not sure if they have gotten quieter since the bad reviews were posted, any in sight here? I have koralia pumps now that are almost dead silent, just tired of the directional flow and starting in reverse tendency.

Honestly I have heard this complaint and I just went ahead and bought two of them as theres no way anything would drown out my HOB skimmer.....they're basically silent. I'm not even sure what noise people refer to when talking about them to be honest. If you put your ear up to the dry side you can here a very low decible hum but I feel like as soon as I am more than a foot from the tank I can't hear anything.

Just my .02 as I know this is an issue often debated by people who have never and will never put out the money to buy these powerheads. I have been extremely happy with my purchase.

I have MP10's, in a fully closed cabinet deigned tank (see signature). I have no noticable noise out of mine, and I run them @ 100%, Reef Crest Mode. They are going to be louder than any Koralia Evo pump, but they put out a lot more flow. The 1400 Koralia puts out maybe 1/2 the flow that the MP10 does (not GPH, but spread and velocity). The undertow is amazing...I have zero dead spots in a 75 gallon, with 2 MP10's.

EDIT: The MP40's are loud at 100%.

I'm currently running one (75% reef crest), and it is barely audible with my ear right next to it. I absolutely love it.

I run two MP-10s and have not had any noise issues. I run reef crest during the day, Lagoonal by night and two or three times during the week I turn them both up to 100% which gives a good stirring up of the tank (75g).

Even at 100% I wouldn't consider them noisy by any stretch.

I think the only noise complaints were on the MP-40s if I am not mistaken, as kind of already mentioned. Something to do with their design (I think because they just downsized the MP-60 instead of designing it from the ground up?). But I could be way off, so take it with a grain of salt!

My MP10s over two years did get louder than when they started. I run both at about 75%.

In terms of how loud, if you're watching movie, doing dishes, talking to people, you can't hear them. It's only if it's quiet in the house, you're reading or something, then you can pick up on the noise very easily, especially if they are pulsing.
