+1 about the level of noise.

    I have two MP10s.
They are loud in full power Reef Crest mode.
Be sure to program sleep mode and follow instructions for mounting them properly.

I kind of disagree with the first few posters in this thread. I find my MP10 quite loud, especially when it is at 100%. I would call them quiet under 50%, and "silent" under 25%.

Ordered a single mp10w for now, crazy how expensive the little thing is better work like a charm for that price!! I have only seen a couple mp40s at lfs on in store setups and frag tanks on constant speed mode. Plan on getting a second down the line but until then hopefully the modes still work with a single pump to a satisfying degree

When did you purchase your pump and do you use the rubber spacer on the dryside? It seems like the original ones have more complaints of being louder esp if the spacer is not in use. WOuld be interested in knowing what year yours was made

I bought it in ~Nov 2011. I have used it with no spacer on full power on a 50 gallon tank, and with the spacer at about 25% on a 10 gallon tank.

I used my mp10 on a biocube and could hear it sitting 15ft from tank when it ramped up but when I moved it to my new 60g with thicker glass, it's much much quieter. My theory is the thicker the glass, the quieter. Maybe that's why they give a spacer for thinner glass?

I think this is a good theory to explain the discrepancies in this thread. My Aqueon 10 gallon tank has pathetically thin glass (1/8") and it can be heard at low power (15-25%) across the room. My old Aqueon 50 gallon tank had thicker glass and seemed quieter at the same power, although I still thought it was noisy at full power. I'm about a week away from moving the MP-10 to a new tank with 3/8" glass, and I expect it to quiet down.

    No offense to anyone...
Trying to define something as subjective as... "What is loud?" reminds me of a conversation I had with my parents when I was 16 years old.

It's the perfect Internet discussion topic ::)

    Good luck to all...

I might as well chime in here, I have gone through a good amount of MP10s in the past 10 months.

It honestly all depends what MP10 you get, I have had NOISY ones directly out of the box and dead silent ones. Pretty sure quality control is non existent...

Make sure to keep a close eye on the white square washer (wet side). Both of my washers have detached and Vortech won't do much about it even under warranty.
