Why make things more complicated than they have to be? Buy a hang on overflow, I like eshopps but if you want something with a slight failsafe you can pick up a reef octo pverflow and a toms aqualifter. However, the more complicated the unit is the more ways it can fail. I use to use the eshopps and had a spare u tube that I swotched out and cleaned whenever the inside became coraline covered. I never had any overflow issues. Remember K.I.S.S.

I have one. Hard plumming is simpler than the overflow box.

Many less moving parts with the hard plumb. I've had 3 gaskets fail, 2 nuts crack and the tank overflow from algae build up 3x in 4 months.

    Like you said, KISS.

With some of those failures and how many you have had it makes me wonder how you installed some items. Did you install the gasket and flange on the wet or dry side? How did you tighten the bulkheads? Did you ever clean the u tube? Even the pvc will get buildup that has to be cleaned. Nothing is maintenance free.

Someone mentioned my threads, and my DIY overflow, etc.

If you want to prevent overflows- for just about any reason- and don't have any controller or high level DT sensor-
then this device will Shut Down your return pump when high water is sensed.

I researched this for weeks since I don't have a controller, and I am so glad I got this as insurance on flooding/water in my family room form my DT.
Heres my thread on it and the link is in there too
