I bought some xenia frags from liveaquaria.com (one of the sponsors on here). It's tank cultured and on sale. It has been growing like crazy. It doesn't really pulse though. Try a frag from them.

I added a pulsing xenia frag this past Friday. Took a day or so to find the right spot with just the right flow and lighting. Forgot to pick up reef epoxy and found it in the sand all balled up with the clownfish trying to host it :shifty:
Epoxied it up on a rock and it's been doing really well....only a couple of days but I expect they would fail quickly if they weren't happy. Started pulsing again as well (had stopped for about a day) although not as much as before.
    Good luck with yours!!

i can feel you there. stuff spreads on its own. i had 2 on the very right side of my six foot wide 130 gallon tank and they are everywhere now. that sonic scubber works good and that kind of stuff though.

I just want to know if the flow is too low or the lighting not bright enough. I currently only the return pump for flow, but it feels like a decent flow.

    +1 on that.
My first attempt at Xenia failed. They stopped pulsing and shrunk down to nothing. They literally kept getting smaller and smaller until they just disappeared. I tried dosing iodine and it did nothing. I had bought the brown Xenia only a few months after I started my tank.

Several months later I tried the white red sea pom-pom variety. This time it took off like crazy. It pulses like mad day and night. I threw some frags in my refugium that is dimmly lit. It doesn't pulse in there so I would conclude that it needs to be well lit to pulse.

    So my advise:
    1. Wait till the tank matures before adding Xenia.
    2. Don't dose iodine or anything else unless you can accurately test for it. You may do more harm than good.
    3. Keep your tank well-lit.
    4. Place your Xenia high in your tank far away from other rocks. It doesn't spread well in a downward direction. If you place it high on an isolated rock it will cover the top of the rock but won't spread off of it. If you let it get too close to other rocks or glass your tank will soon be covered in Xenia.
