Most buy dry rock and just 1 or 2 small pieces of live to seed with. It's a lot cheaper that way, and there's less chance of getting harmful hitch hikers.

Dry rock like Bulk Reef Supply carries seems to be the safest approach most take to prevent any unwanted critters.

If this is your first time, I would go with Mr. Bill's suggestion and buy dry rock and a few little live rocks to avoid any harmful hitchhikers.

That's exactly what liverock is made of, so yes. I agree with everyone else as well. If you can't source live rock that you know to be 100% pest free, just start with dry rock and seed with some live.

+1 to all, and as has been said, save A LOT of $$ too.

My 125 has seeded great, and the rear wall, once painted black, has Boo-Coos of corralline on it! All from a few small pieces of LR from a LFS I don't use anymore, and some stuff I got in a CL buy from a guy breaking down his tank.
