I recently purchased an RODI system that I have been using on a slop sink with a hose adapter. Now that I'm starting to make a lot of water, I think I'd like to clean up the plumbing on it a bit. I've already figured out how I am going to plumb my waste water better (putting a Y in it with a couple ball valves, so I can either pump waste into a bucket for watering plants/hot tub, or run down the drain) but I have a question on the best way to plumb the input.

I want to put an adapter on that installs under the sink inline after the shut off valve on the cold water. I then want to run some of the tubing that came with the unit up closer to the RODI unit, and add another ball valve closer to the unit, so I don't have to get under the sink to turn it on and off.

Now, my (very Noob) question is: would the tubing be able to handle the pressure of always being connected to the watersource but turned off with a valve before it gets to my actual RODI filter? I don't know much about this, and I'd rather ask and look dumb then assume it'd work and have a flooded basement! :-[

I think it would be okay if the valve was a high quality valve, not one made of plastic but of metal or something. Im no expert but I think i would give it a try.

This is exactly how I have mine plumbed. I have a "tee" between the hard line and the flex line on my sink, Then it runs to a ball valve before the RO/DI. Works great. Shouldn't cause any problems for you.

My valves are all John Guest plastic ball valves, a couple bucks at the hardware store. There is no need for heavy duty valves, it's only city water pressure. ;)

I should mention that john guest and murlock (both plastic quick connect fittings) are quality fittings, I wouldn't trust a dollar store valve (if there is such a thing lol).

You can get the valves and fittings you need in name brands at Lowes, Home Depot or any hardware store right on the shelf.
I would use a feed water adapter valve which installs next to the wall valve then as you say, run some tubing and place a valve closer to the unit.

Myself I used the cold water line that feeds my washing machine which is next to my laundry sink and installed a brass garden hose wye with built in ball valves, about $8 for a very good heavy duty one at HD or Lowes. The hose thread adapter then screws on to one side of that wye.

I didn't even think of that. It would be pretty easy to install something similar I think. I'll have to take a good look at it tonight and see what I can figure out. I think I already have everything I'd need to do that already!
