She was a California Twin Spot, Octopus bimaculoides. I placed road cones at the bottom of Newport Beach Back Bay. Every April I would dive down and watch the octopi with their eggs. She was one I raised.

She loved attention, and interaction. Her tank was in the kitchen so she could see the comings and goings of people and she loved it.

can you give us some info on how you kept the octopus? How did you keep her from climbing out? was she the only inhabitant? what did you feed her?

I am guilty of assuming that most of the people on here are guys until they use the word "cute". Then I am probably just as wrong when I then assume they are a girl. I haven't seen you use "cute" but still thought you were female, Corailline.

She was kept in a simple 30 gal tank, with an old fashioned box filter. It was the only way to keep her in and the tank clean.

No external lighting as she recieved plenty of ambient light from the room.

The lid was held in place by bricks on the top, but when I was home and in the kitchen the lid was open only when I could directly observe her.

When she was young I spend countless hours hanging over docks to collect inverts that she could eat and that would not eat her.

As she got older, little neck clams were her favorite. They were a good choice because she could eat them when she wanted and they survived in the tank until she got hungry. She ate other raw seafood as well.

When the neighbor kids came by to see her she would put all arms out to greet them and I honestly think she enjoyed it as much as the children.

She lived to about 1 year and 3 months and died from old age as they have a very short life spans.

After she died I never kept another, because I knew from my interactions with other octopi that none could live up to her personality.
