just wondering on what the consensus is on noraml output lighting and coral health/growth

i have a 6 gallon nano tank that has been doing much better than expected so much so in fact i really dont feel i can keep these corals in here much longer for there own health everything is touching something

my 50 gallon tank is cycled and is ready to go but it has a lack of lighting i jsut purchased a icecap 430 that i will be using to build a vho hood but i bought it off ebay and who knows how long before it gets here with xmas on the horizon

but i was wondering if for the meantime i could use 4 40 watt phiilips daylight bulbs on the 50 gallon to sustain the corals i have 2 on there right now and it looks amazing much brighter than the pc bulbs on my 6 gallon and oh yeah in case anyone is wondering the are 8000k

edit: oh yeah mostly softies and a few LPS

I really don't know, but no one else was posting anything and I didn't want you to feel all alone :D
I have heard of using a lot of different types of lights even some that were unconventional. I just don't have any experience with them. I even had a GE rep come by the other day and talk a little about T5 technology. It appears to be the NEW wave of the fututre. Low cost high output. We just need someone to manufacture the right bulbs for the aquarium industry.

    00Nothing,

In my opinion, you should be fine. Depending on what corals you have. My softies (xenia and shrooms) and LPS's, Lobophylia, cynarina, and frogspawn are all lower light corals
I have to shade them from the MH. What corals do you have?
