What is this scum stuff?! I cannot get rid of it. I tried lime away, vinegar, razor blade, plain water, light grit sandpaper, scrubbing bubbles... nothing gets rid of it. Any help would make me a much less stressed person LOL. Thanks!

So do you mean the glass is above the water level and not submerged?

If so, I would say it is just what happens when salt, oxygen, and glass mix. For this exact reason it is preferable to just have an open top with saltwater. I know this doesn't help you because you can't just remove the glass if I understand you correctly. I'm sure there is some kind of solution you can purchase that will clear up the glass but I have no experience with applying that kind of stuff to an aquarium.

So.. jewelry polish worked, kinda. It removed some of it, and after 35 minutes of scrubbing a 3" circle with no more results I realized it probably wasn't worth the effort. Any downside to leaving it?
