How many of yall have found some stomatella varia snails in your tank? I was looking at my live rock and saw a puff of "smoke". Looked at it alittle closer and saw the 2 wiskers. When i touched it, it shrunk up and disappeared under the rock...all of the pictures i find online look almost exactly like it. Seems like it was trying to reproduce...just wanna make sure no one has had any real problems with them other than startling you....

they are harmless - even beneficial to your tank's clean up crew!!!

Nothing wrong with them in my opinion!

yea, your levels being off or just right or shifting or weird lighting cycles all contribute. Whenever I do a massive water change, all of my mini brittle stars (thousands) eject sperm and eggs. My tank gets cloudy for about an hour and all of the brittles get on top of rocks and stretch for the surface trying to catch star excretion. Very interesting frightening site.

It's funny you say that, my ph was low last night and I buffed it yesterday and today(it's at 8.4 right now) so that could be the reason...

Sorry for digging up old thread.

I had 4 of those snails within 2 inches of each other, all 4 smoking. Looked like a big hookah party :)
