    Hey guys, so I did a fishless cycle with my lights completely off. I got my first fish 3 days ago and have been running my lights 10 hours a day and no algae has appeared. When will I get algae???!!!???

    What are your nitrate and phosphate levels? Algae needs nutrients. Even if they're high, it may take at least a couple of weeks to get your first bloom in a newly-cycled tank.

    I never got green hair algae with my latest cycle. I got a light skimming of diatoms and a slight growth of cyano in a corner of my tank before they subsided. If your nutrients are kept in check, you may never get an them.
