My tank has been set up for about 10months now and was doing really well up untill about a month in a half ago. For some reason i had a large outbreak of gha and it actually took out some of my corals it was so bad.:-[ today i took out all of the rock and coral and put it in my 10g that has been set up for a while with nothing in it, and still canot find the problem. i have been buying my ro/di water from my lfs, never had a problem with it but i think thats the problem because all my lvls are in check. i also noticed about 4-5 aptaisa on my rock, so the only thing i can think of is high phospates, wich check to be .5. so im not sure what is going on but it destroyed my tank. So anyway back to the topic i pulled out all of my lr and scrubbed all the gha off, tommarow im gonna drain some water before i put the rock and coral back in and put some fresh in. Al upload some pics tommarow when its all done, if i can figure it out lol. BTW anyone got an idea on how to get aptaisa off besides lemon juice, iv tried and i dont want to boil the rock?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
My suggestion is to check the phosphates and TDS of the water from the fish store. You would be amazed at the water quality from some LFS. Some do not do the needed maintance on their Ro/DI systems.

    Next the usual.

    1. Old bulbs.
    2. Over feeding.
    3. Phosphates bound up in the GHA and not giving a true value of phosphate.
    4. Build up of detritus in the system.

Have you tried any GFO ?

Yes, digging through the liverock i found quite a bit of detrius in the gha, so that may be the problem. my bulbs probbably are getting old so al prolly replace them too. Pics ARE coming this after noon when i get back.:cheesy:

Clean them or ditch them (slowly) all together. I had those and they were more of a pain to maintain and keep my levels down. I had high nitrate issues from not cleaning them bi-weekly so I just ditched them all together.

i would ditch them go with a skimmer i had a canister filter with bioballs caused a huge GHA outbreak and high nitrates. i now have a skimmer and my tank is algae free. aslo with the aipstasia you can boil water then use a serince and shoot the boiling water into the center of the aipstasia and it will kill it

Inject them with some kalk paste. Depending on how big they are, or how fast, you might have to do it twice. It always worked for me.
